The invention relates to a method for monitoring an environment with several acoustic sensors (1, 2, 3, 4) which form a decentralized network (N), in which the sensors (1, 2, 3, 4) at least partially communicate with each other, wherein further process the sensors (1, 2, 3, 4) each detect acoustic signals which are based on sounds in the area, and the detected signals for performing a situation recognition.
