12-phases magneto-electric direct drive turbo generator

2019
Direct drive turbo generators with high specific output power are used in aviation. Elimination of the reduction unit will reduce the weight of the entire generation system. Important requirements here are as follows: brushless generator; a possibility of adjusting the output voltage (by changing the excitation current) depending on the value and type of the connected load; and autonomy (no external power supply of excitation current); one-and-a-half times overcurrent. To ensure the stabilization of the output voltage, an adjustable semiconductor converter is required here. The converter first rectifies the voltage of the turbo generator, and then generates a sinusoidal voltage of a required value. At the rectification stage, it is important to obtain a voltage that is free of pulsations, which can be achieved by using multiphase generators. The use of R-L-C filters with ferromagnetic chokes lead to a significant increase in mass. On the other hand, the use of multiphase transducers allows concentrating an increased number of diodes and transistors over a larger area of radiators, which will ensure their thorough cooling. In case any of any of the components fails, multiphase systems provide higher reliability and survivability of system as a whole. Taking into account the above requirements, 12-phases direct drive turbo generator has been developed
