The Reintroduction of Parakmeria omeiensis Cheng, a Critically Endangered Endemic Plant, in Southwest China

2020
A total of 74 individuals of Parakmeria omeiensis in two small populations have been found in Mt. Emei, southwest China. This species is threatened by pollination difficulties, germination barriers, and habitat fragmentation. About 1750 saplings were propagated by seed germination and grafting, in which about 600 saplings were reintroduced to the wild in Mt. Emei with the altitude of 1200–1550 m. With the regular management and monitoring, 555 saplings are growing very well in two newly established populations, which increased the wild population numbers and sizes.
