CONVENTIONAL AND ISLAMIC UNIT TRUST INVESTMENT BY REGION IN MALAYSIA

Investment of trust unit is a method that is significant in assisting Malaysian communities socioeconomically. Investment is also a popular study in Malaysia and abroad. However, there are no studies that analyse the gap among investors in regions in Malaysia for investments made in Malaysia. This study is aimed at understanding the differences between the conventional and Islamic trust unit. The Islamic trust unit has the features which are syaria’ compliance that are appealing to investors. The objective of this working paper is to identify the gap in the amount of shares bought and the number of investors in different regions in Malaysia. Besides, this study also determines which region has the lowest number of investors of trust unit. The findings show that the southern region has the highest household income but with the lowest number of investors compared to other regions. Other than this, this study will be a reference among researchers and unit trust industry players in enhancing and improving the industry.
