The Cytotoxicity of Dental Adhesives Influenced by Light Curing Unit

In dental practice, one should use dental adhesives with the optimal technical characteristics and the least toxic influences on the pulpa dentin system. In the present study it was tested if various light curing units have an influence on the cytotoxic action of different dentin adhesives. Human gingival fibroblasts were used in a cell culture model to test the effect of different adhesive systems after polymerisation with various light curing units. The results show that the influence of the light curing units on the cytotoxic effect of the dental adhesives was clearly evident. An optimal tuning between dentin adhesive and light curing unit is an important prerequisite for reducing the toxic effects on the pulpa dentin system.
