Synthesis of Ni-Al-ZrO2(Y2O3) composite coatings with excellent wear resistance through mechanical alloying combined with pulse electrodeposition

Abstract Pulse electrodeposition technology was applied to pad the rough surface of Ni-Al-ZrO2(Y2O3) coating fabricated by mechanical alloying. Results indicated that the plated Ni coating padded the rough surface of the coating completely. The combination of Ni-Al intermetallics and ZrO2(Y2O3) made the coating exhibit excellent wear resistance from room temperature (RT) to 500 °C, which expanded the application of Al alloy in industry extensively.
