American university audience and who continues to this day to further the careers of the present generation of Sartre specialists, albeit himself now a professor emeritus. Aided greatly in English by Kenneth Douglas and the critics of Yale French Studies and by the work of translation and scholarship done by Hazel Barnes, sartrian existentialism a la Pucciani began to flourish as a serious object for academic study during the late fifties and early sixties. From these seminars have come some of the most influential of the next generation of Sartre specialists, most notably Michel Rybalka whose independent work and collaborative efforts with Michel Contât in Paris have now become the primary source for Sartre scholarship in the world.
