INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS IN JAPAN 1995: REPORTS OF THE ITE TOUR OF JAPAN ON INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS AND THE SECOND WORLD CONGRESS ON INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEMS

1996
In November 1995, the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), in conjunction with the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America), sponsored the 1995 Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Tour of Japan. The tour consisted of attending the Second World Congress on ITS in Yokohama, Japan, on Nov. 9-11, 1995, plus a technical site visit to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's Traffic Control Center. More than 3,500 people from around the world attended the congress, which included numerous plenary sessions, executive sessions, technical sessions, exhibits and technical visits. Seven public agency scholarships and the ITE James H. Kell Fellowship were awarded, to pay for the recipients' registration to the World Congress, their hotel accommodations, air travel, and other expenses. All of the scholarships were awarded based on the relevance of current and future responsibilities of the applicants. Those who were awarded scholarships were required to prepare a written report upon completion of the tour, describing what was learned, and potential additional applications and issues that need to be addressed. This volume contains those written reports prepared by each tour participant.
