The Weever and Historical Study of Hydrological Environment of the Song River

2011
A delicacy in ancient China, the weever of the Song River grows in the watercourse of the Wusong River, with four gills and a length of 7 to 8 Chinese inches. The tidal and watercourse environment of the Wusong River contributed to the weever's fame as an eminent produce south of the Yangtze River, resulting in the original culture of weevers of the Song River as early as the Tang and the Song Dynasty.By the Ming Dynasty, the Huangpu River became the main watercourse to the sea in place of the Wusong River, whose tidal environment changed accordingly, leading directly to the extinction of the weever of the Song River whose breeding migration was no longer possible.
