Design Optimization of Large-Mode-Area All-Solid Photonic Bandgap Fibers for High-Power Laser Applications

We optimized the structural parameters of large-mode-area all-solid photonic bandgap fibers for high-power laser applications with numerical simulations. We obtained an effective mode area of greater than 1000 μm 2 in bending condition while maintaining single-mode operation and realizing compact packaging for both 7- and 19-cell core fibers. We also found out that a core diameter of larger than 115 μm could be achieved for the 19-cell core fibers.
