Analysis of mechanical and wear properties of Al2O3 + SiC + B4C/AA5083 hybrid metal matrix composite done by stir casting route

Abstract In the present research Aluminum Metal Matrix composite were synthesised by reinforcing Al5083-O with Al2O3, SiC & B4C particles. The composites were prepared using stir casting method in which the amount of reinforcement is varied by B4C in ratio 2.5%, 5%, 10% of weight percentage with constant Al2O3, SiC of 5% weight percentage in the composite. The SEM micrographs of the composites revealed the fairly uniform distribution of the particles in composites with clustering at few places. The dispersed Al2O3, SiC & B4C in Al5083-O, alloy contributed to enhancing the tensile strength, Wear strength and Brinell hardness of the composites.
