Optimising half duplex operation in satellite communication systems

Satellite communication systems do not usually work in half duplex operation because of several reasons: mainly spectrum efficiency, latency and resource allocation algorithm complexity. Nevertheless, simplex operation is one solution to reduce duplexer constraints when necessary. Depending on the frequency operation band, duplexer could represent a cost driver at terminal side. This paper presents an optimized solution to minimise half duplex impacts on satellite system while taking advantage from its benefits. (6 pages)
