Use of induced pluripotent stem cells and cerebral organoids to profile Zika virus infection: Features and findings

2021
Abstract Induced pluripotent stem cells and cerebral organoids enable a better understanding of the pathophysiology, mechanisms of action, identification of therapeutic targets, and new drugs and alternatives for the treatment of several pathologies, including profiling Zika virus infection. Those allow us to observe aspects of the disease pathogenesis that would be very difficult or impossible when compared with other study models, such as postmortem tissue and animal model. This chapter aims to address these two main types of disease modeling tools associated with the several findings applied to Zika virus infection.
