Kunst als Manifestation des Unendlichen : Wackenroders Herzensergiessungen eines kunstliebenden Klosterbruders (1796/97)

2000
The essay shows that rather than being representative of the later romantic construct of art-religion, Wackenroder's 'Herzensergiessungen' (Outpourings of the Heart), this initiatory text of Early German Romanticism, was an attempt to recapture the function of art to serve religion. Thus the presupposed concept of religion is in surprising proximity to the understanding of religion which is developed in Schleiermacher's 'Reden' (Speeches).
