Importance of Teams in the Workplace

This paper describes the importance of teams in the workplace of modern businesses and is focusing on the value that effective team is able to deliver for a company. This work conjoins theory and historical path of team concept from its origins till nowadays, how it was affected and contributed by various researchers of different times. Theoretical part reveals the team concept itself and if applied to an organization. It also describes the process of team building from the very beginning, assessment of its productivity and key aspects as leadership, decision-making, motivation and effectiveness. It also contains examples of high performing teams in global companies. Practical part involves assessment of the team within an international corporation, where it is hypothesized that even a market leader needs to implement team-wise changes in order to face changing business environment. This work will be of help for those who want to understand what the team is, how a team functions in theory and on practical examples of large multinational corporations.
