Comparison of radial and tangential forces effect on the radial vibrations of synchronous machines

2019
The audible noise of electric machines has become an important criterion in their design. In this context, several studies discuss the vibration behaviour of the electric machines stator, which is the main vibration source in the electric machine. These studies are based mainly on finite element multi-physics models. The load of the mechanical model is defined by the Maxwell pressure (electromagnetic forces) applied on the inner radius surface using an electromagnetic model. And finally, the radial vibration is calculated on the outer radius surface of the stator. When it comes to the mechanical load definition, many studies neglect the tangential forces to simplify and reduce the calculation time. In this paper, validated numerical models are used to study the effect of radial and tangential forces on vibration. Comparisons are made with several machines in order to determine robust conclusions.
