Evaluation of aromatic rice genotypes for resistance against foot rot disease

2016
A total of 291 aromatic rice germplasm lines was screened using high throughput screening technique against foot rot disease (Fusarium moniliforme) in Punjab. Out of these, only 41 lines were found promising and were reevaluated during 2nd year. Only one entry BPT 5204 showed resistant reaction with 12 per cent seedling mortality. Among rest of the promising lines 22 were found moderately resistant, 7 moderately susceptible, 8 susceptible and 3 highly susceptible to the disease having seedling mortality between 21–40 per cent, 41–60 per cent, 61–80 per cent and > 80 per cent, respectively. Basmati 385, Type 3, and Tilak Chandan were found highly susceptible to the disease with 80.2, 84.2 and 100 per cent seedling mortality, respectively.
