Sinistral findings in schizophrenia

While of little immediate practical importance, the quest for the neuroanatomical location of schizophrenic illness has substantial heuristic value. The recent report 1 by Gavin Reynolds, from the Cambridge MRC group, that there is gross asymmetry of dopamine concentrations in the amygdalae of post-mortem brain from schizophrenic patients promises to be a milestone in this process. In itself, the report is nice in its simplicity and, taking a broader view it provides the map reader with a triangulation point, in company with neurological and neuropsychological evidence, to focus attention on the left temporal lobe.
