The Effect of Rat Liver Carcinomas, Growing in the Yolk Sacs of Chick Embryos, on the Free Glutamic Acid and Glutamine Content of the Eggs

1954
1. Estimations of the free glutamic acid and glutamine concentrations of tumor-bearing and control eggs have shown a definite rise in the free glutamic acid concentration of eggs with tumors, which was apparent in 7–9 days following tumor injection. 2. The rise in free glutamic acid was accompanied by a decrease in glutamine concentration. 3. The free glutamic acid and glutamine of control eggs tended to decrease on incubation. 4. Upon separation of egg and tumor, the free glutamic acid content of the egg was found to be higher than that for control eggs. 5. Tumor tissue was found to have a lower concentration of free glutamic acid than the egg alone.
