The Dilemma of Foreign Life Insurers in China

China’s insurance market was one of the industries that were opened up very quickly after China’s entry into WTO. There was a rapid growth in number and market share growth of foreign insurers. However, they (especially foreign life insurers) are experiencing some awkward dilemma in China, having trouble maintaining growth and some even withdrawing from the market. This paper talked about the potential reason about this dilemma and gave some suggestions to insurance companies as well as regulators.
