A Wideband 12 Phase Ring Oscillator for 5G Applications
2020
This paper proposes a wideband 12 phase ring oscillator, which is tunable in the frequency range between 8.09 GHz and 20.54 GHz. The primary delay cell of the proposed architecture uses a cross-coupled PMOS topology to maintain out- of-phase nature in the individual cell. A control voltage common to each primary delay cell is used to tune the oscillator. The proposed ring oscillator consists of two ring oscillators which are mutually injection-locked to obtain the poly-phase response. The proposed design was simulated in a 65-nm CMOS technology with a supply voltage of 1.2 V. The design shows a phase noise of -87.55 dBc/Hz at an offset frequency of 1 MHz when operated at 10.024 GHz while consuming 3.75 mW of power. Additionally, the designed oscillator achieves an FoM of 161.83 dB.
