Water and society

2021
Abstract One of the old and deep-rooted weaknesses of water resources planning, development, and management is the lack or neglect of non-structural aspects, especially socio-cultural aspects, the most important being the complexity of relationships between water resources and socio-economic parameters, On the other hand, socio-economic evaluation of different regions is important before implementing different policies of water resources management. The objective of this chapter therefore is to study the influence of socio-economic parameters on water resources and what the impact of water resource changes is on social parameters, such as employment, unemployment rate, human development index, mortality rate, tourism, income index, and other related indicators in different countries. Understanding these interactions and their impacts can help water resource managers make community decisions and evaluations before implementing water resources projects.
