CGAG5 AN INTEGRATED GEOSPATIAL SYSTEM FOR FOREST MONITORING AND ENFORCEMENT

2010
Increasing trends of illegal logging and encroachments into totally protected areas such as national parks and reserves has prompted the government to adopt a more stringent approach in forest monitoring. Technological advancements that are related to forest geospatial applications (remote sensing, web database and mobile mapping) has been seen as an opportunity for improving the efficiency of enforcement practices. The integrated geospatial system that is introduced in this paper incorporates a turnkey airborne sensing system, mobile mapping and web based dissemination of the tactical data to users. This provides a fast response solution and a more accurate representation of the field information to the enforcement personnel during surveillance and investigation.
