Comparison of different compensation schemes for 10 Gb/s megameter soliton transmission over standard fiber at 1.55 /spl mu/m

In this paper we compare different setups with respect to their suitability for single mode fibre (SMF) soliton transmission at amplifier (SMF-) spacings of 50km. We show that 8000 km soliton transmission over SMF at 1.55 /spl mu/m is feasible, when the dispersion compensated fibre (DCF) is operated at low power levels.
