Present Status of Fisheries Resources in Nanbei Lake and Its Exploitation

In 1995, the authors conducted year round ( in four seasous ) investigation on plankton population composition and measured the biomass seasonal variations of Nanbei Lake, which is located on the north coast of Hangzhou Bay and within the jurisdiction of Haiyan County. And the potential of fish production was thus estimated, based on the results of the investigation. It is obviously unreasonable to increase the fish and shrimp production of the lake through feeding and fertilizing, as Nanbei Lake is a famous scenic spot. However, on basis of the present status of natural food resources in the lake, selection and sticking some commercial fish and shrimp species to a certain extent will not only bring into play some fishery benefits, but also be favourable for water quality control and for prevention of eutrophication of the water body.
