Plagas y enfermedades emergentes en nogal

espanolEl nogal es una especie muy presente en el paisaje del sur de Europa. En el area mediterranea la nuez es tradicionalmente un fruto seco muy consumido. Actualmente, la clasificacion de la nuez como un alimento con alto valor nutraceutico, ademas de nutritivo, ha desencadenado un aumento de su consumo a nivel mundial. En Espana su desarrollo como frutal es reciente, en los 10 ultimos anos se ha duplicado la superficie en plantacion regular, ocupando cerca de 10.000ha segun MAPAMA en 2016. La tecnologia del cultivo se ha desarrollado paralelamente a su expansion, aunque en la peninsula Iberica la tendencia ha sido traer la innovacion de EE. UU o Francia y actualmente de Chile. Hasta ahora, las afecciones de plagas y enfermedades mayoritariamente presentes no han sido otras que las esperables. Sin embargo, la situacion esta cambiando y ‘nuevas’ plagas y enfermedades se estan detectando o seran amenazas para este frutal en un futuro cercano. Aplicar adecuadas estrategias de control supone tambien conocer los potenciales riesgos existentes y estar preparado para afrontarlos correctamente cuando se presenten. EnglishCommon walnut is a widespread tree species in southern Europe. Traditionally, walnut has been a widely consumed nut in the Mediterranean basin. Nutritious and nutraceutical properties recently shown in walnuts have triggered a significant increase in world consumption. Grafted walnut orchards have been planted in Spain recently and over the last 10 years their area have doubled up to 10,000 has in the country (2016 official data). Technology for walnut cultivation has been developed in parallel to the increase of orchards area. In the Iberian Peninsula the trend has been bringing innovation from abroad, mainly USA and France, and recently from Chile. Hitherto, pests and diseases significantly attacking walnut orchards in Spain have been the ones expected. However, under current global change, new pests and diseases have been already detected and others will be a serious threat in the near future. Applying suitable strategies for pest and disease control entails a proper understanding of potential risks and being prepared to address them properly when they arise.
