A Contribution to the Study of Tolerancing Technology

Tolerancing technology is a basic tool for the study of interchangeable assemblies and for various kinds of mechanical function. The problem of the congruence of the design-product system is studied in this work, as a particular case of more complex designing-production integration. The proposed approach is based on entropy principles. An a priori probability distribution regarding design and an a posteriori probability distribution regarding the product are assumed. The distance between such distributions permits us to evaluate the above congruence. The proposed model, which is made more user friendly by transforming the probability approach into a fuzzy approach, is a useful tool for the control of production systems, e.g. for the variation control of features.
