Correlation Coefficient and Path Analysis in Garden Pea (Pisum sativum Var Hortens)

2010
An experiment was carried out entitled correlation coefficient and path analysis in garden pea (Pisum sativum var hortense) with 20 diverse genotypes of garden pea. All the genotypes viz. AP-3, Arkel, AP-2, AP-4, AP-4, AP-5, KS-262, KS-256, KS-260, KS-195, KS-270, KS-126 x Arkel, KS-270, KS-254, KS-158, KS-159, KS-149, KS-126 x 185, KS 123 x 185, KS-156, KS-258 and AP-1 were sown in randomized block design with three replications. The correlation provides information about inter relationship among yield and its components. The information on character association may be used in the prediction of correlated response to directional selection construction of selection indices and identification of some characters which may have no value by themselves but are useful as indicators of the more important ones under consideration. Correlation and path analysis furnish information regarding the nature and magnitude of various associates and help in measurement of direct effect of one variable on other. It is most important to know the direct and indirect effect on yield component for selecting suitable genotypes for improving the yield. Analyzed data of various parameters revealed that among all the genotypes. Azad Pea-2, Azad Pea-5, KS-126 x Arkel, KS-240, KS-256 and KS-262 gave promising results.
