Time-Varying Effect Modeling for Intensive Longitudinal Data

2021
In this chapter, we discuss the use of time-varying effect modeling (TVEM) for examining time-varying associations in intensive longitudinal data (ILD). We will demonstrate the application of TVEM to examine associations across real-time using data from a 21-day daily diary study assessing interparental and parent-child conflict. Particular focus will be given to the meaning of the variable used to indicate time and types of research questions that TVEM is poised to address when applied to ILD. Additionally, we compare and contrast TVEM with multilevel modeling.
