The Second Breeding Record of the Crested Honey Buzzard, Pernis ptilorhynchus, in the Republic of Korea

2013
On July 27, 2012, a nest of the Crested Honey Buzzard, Pernis ptilorhynchus, was found in the Civilian Control Zone at Seohwa-ri, Seohwa-myeon, Injae-gun, Gangwon Province. There were two nestlings in the nest, both estimated to be three weeks old. This is the second breeding record of this species in the Republic of Korea. In this report, we present measurements of the four-weeks-old juveniles, as well as the nest and the nesting tree. The Northern Goshawk, Accipiter gentilis, bred in the same nest in 2013, and the Crested Honey Buzzards did not breed there.
