An integrated circuit comprising: a monitoring node that is to receive a monitored signal in the situation; and a multi-purpose node, the general-purpose node is configured to couple an external resistor of the integrated circuit, wherein the integrated circuit is adapted to provide a predetermined current to the multi-purpose node during a predetermined period of time, resulting in a resistor voltage across the resistor during the predetermined time period leads, wherein the integrated circuit is adapted to detect the resistance voltage, the resistance voltage is indicative of a threshold value, wherein the integrated circuit is adapted to store the threshold value, and wherein the integrated circuit is adapted to a time after elapse of the predetermined time period outputting an error signal to the multi-purpose node, the error signal is indicative of a relationship between the monitored signal and the threshold value.
