PHOTOELECTROCHEMICAL SOLAR CELLS (PESC) USING Li DOPED CdS SEMICONDUCTOR PHOTOANODES OBTAINED BY CHEMICAL BATH DEPOSITION

1984
n-CdS and n-CdS:Li films have been obtained on stainless steel substrate by a chemical bath deposition technique from an ammoniacal solution of CdSO 4 thiourea and Li∞ 3 . These films were used to fabricate liquid junction solar cells with S 2 − , S 2 2 − redox electrolyte. Mott-Schottky plots for C d S / S 2 − , S 2 2 − / P t and C d S : L i / S 2 − , S 2 2 − / P t cell configuration have been used to find the N D , flat-band potential and semiconductor type. Further, the J-V characteristics of the cell C d S / S 2 − , S 2 2 − shows that the charge transfer is mediated through the valence band. The short circuit current and efficiency of Cd S PESC is considerably increased on doning with Li. This is attributed to (i) increase in flat-band potential (ii) change in doping density and (iii) increase of absorption towards higher wavelength.
