Magnetization and Electrical Resistivity of Near Equi‐Atomic FeRh Alloys in Fields up to 370 kOe

2008
The magnetization curves and electrical resistivities of Fe50+xRh50−x, with x=0, 0.2, 0.5 and 2, taken at 4.2 K in magnetic fields up to 370 kG, are reported. It is shown that the saturation magnetization corresponds to 5 μB per formula unit. The role of excess iron atoms can be characterized by the building up of giant moments in the antiferromagnetic matrix, their magnitude being 135 μB per excess iron atom. The influence of a magnetic field on the resistivity is extremely large.
