The development of portable intelligent battery management system with adequate charging method

2018
ABSTRACTRechargeable batteries are widely used in electric vehicles. The simplest method of determining battery health involves recording and analyzing the status history of the battery. We propose a novel portable intelligent battery management system (PIBMS) comprising three components: a controller, battery measurement unit (BMU), and data recording unit (DRU). The status of the battery and its voltage and temperature can be examined at any time by using the BMU. The status of the battery is recorded by a controller and then transferred to a personal computer using serial communication or an intelligent device through Bluetooth. The DRU records the battery status in secure digital standalone memory to determine the battery’s state of health. The PIBMS can also make this information available to a charging station so as to achieve an adequate charging. We employed a five-stage charging method applying the Taguchi method to determine the voltage boundary conditions in each stage. During charging, the vol...
