Tinker’s Gang: Student Expression Versus Gang Suppression

The presence of gangs in schools is increasing. Administrators must deal with gang presence but may instead be focused on deterring violence and fail to recognize other issues such as students’ Constitutional rights to express themselves. This article offers a definition of gangs and discusses the fine line between student expression and suppression.
