IMPACT OF ACID DEPOSITION ON THE PRESENCE OF PLANKTON IN SITU PATENGAN - BANDUNG

2019
Acid deposition occurred as the result of the impact of air pollution due to the increased emissions of SOx and NOx. If the acidic compounds fall into the inland aquatic (lake, river, or spring), it will disrupt the proliferation of organisms. Declining pH in inland aquatic generally affected the species diversity and plankton composition. This study aims to figure out the effect of pH on organism life in Situ Patengan - Bandung. The study was undertaken in May, June, and September 2017 - 2018 at 3 (three) sites, represented inlet, middle, and outlet of lake using survey method to conduct data collection. The results showed that plankton in Situ Patengan consisted of 4 – 7 genera from 4 – 10 families of zooplankton and 10 -17 genera from 10 -16 families of phytoplankton.  The range of diversity index (H’) was 0.135 – 1.45 for zooplankton and 0.04 – 1.71 for phytoplankton. The dominance index of zooplankton was 0.25 - 0.68 and phytoplankton was 0.14 – 2.50. The pH of Situ Patengan range from 7.5 to 8.6, while the concentration of dominant ions were 6.6 – 6 .7 mg/L of SO 4 2- and 5.7 – 6.6 mg/L of Ca 2+ . Pearson correlation analysis of pH and the abundance of both zooplankton and phytoplankton showed a very weak correlation. The pH range of 7.5 – 8.6 did not significantly affect the abundance of plankton.
