Some thoughts on diesel marine engineering. Discussion. Authors' closure

This paper contains an overview of the evolution of diesel technology mostly by quoting from authors who were contemporaries of R. Diesel or experts on technical history, as well as statements published by later technical experts. This procedure has been followed in order to give an impression of the thinking of the earlier generation, and to demonstrate that today's engineering problems are not so different and brand new as those of the past. In dealing with the present, a comparison has been made between the traditional usages and the tools offered by the new diesel technology resulting from the third great developmental step in the history of the engine.
