Negative-ion states of molecular iodine

1988
The authors report on the symmetry determination of I2- resonant states responsible for I- ion plus I(2P32/,2P12/) atom formation in iodine molecules. It is shown from kinetic energy and angular measurements of I- ions that the four I2- resonant states with symmetry (1/2)u, (3/2)g, (1/2)g and (3/2)u must be invoked to understand I-+I(2P32/) fragment formation at 0, 0.6, 1.3 and 2.3 eV respectively, whereas the 2(1/2)g and 2(1/2)u I2-resonant states are responsible for I-+I(2P12/) fragment formation at 2.4 and 3.5 eV respectively.
