Um alerta para os riscos de bioinvasão de jaqueiras, Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam., na Reserva Biológica Paulo Fraga Rodrigues, antiga Reserva Biológica Duas Bocas, no Espírito Santo, Sudeste do Brasil

2009
The most ancient records of the linkage of jackfruit tree, Artocarpus heterophyllus, with human culture date back to the Harappan civilization which flourished between Pakistan and northwestern India in the period from 2500 to 1000 BC. It was introduced in northeastern Brazil, in mid-seventeenth century, and afterwards taking part of the species list used by Glaziou for the landscape treatment of urban parks in the Rio de Janeiro in mid-nineteenth century. Currently, the jackfruit is presented as a kind of bioinvasive species at the National Park of Tijuca, in Rio de Janeiro. As it is present in an area of secondary forest regeneration in the Paulo Rodrigues Fraga Biological Reserve - Rebio, former Duas Bocas Biological Reserve, this study aimed to locate the areas occupied by individuals of jackfruit occur in the area of biological reserve. We have identified 17 glebes with a predominance of A. heterophyllus occupying a total area of 19.45 hectares that represents 0.67% of Rebio. Physiognomic assessment identifies a great biometric homogeneity among adults already in reproductive activity. Its spatial pattern varies from the regularly spaced one to sometimes strongly patchy or even sparingly placed individuals. According to the precautionary principle of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the lack of certainty about the involvement of a biological invasion in the long term should not be used as a justification for postponing the implementation of measures to eradicate, contain or control an exotic species, the first initiative of the management of the Rebio was the georeferenced mapping of the glebes of jackfruit adult trees.
