Assay test strip (50) having the following features: a flow path for a fluid sample; a sample receiving zone, which is coupled to the flow path; a test label that specifically binds a target analyte; a control label that is free of a specific binding affinity for the target analyte and having a different optical characteristic than the test mark; and a detection zone (15) downstream with the flow path in the flow direction is coupled from the sample receiving zone and an immobilized assay reagent which specifically binds the target analyte, and an immobilized control reagent which binds specifically the control label comprises, wherein the test reagent and the control reagent are immobilized in a combined test and control region of the detection zone (15), and wherein the test reagent and the control reagent are mixed together in the test and control region.
