PLANT PROTECTION WITH THE USE OF PROTEASE INHIBITORS- A SCIENTIFIC REVIEW.

2014
Proteases are important to the survival of the host organism as they provide nutrition and thus need of their regulation is equally important. Interaction with protease inhibitor is an important and efficient way of regulation as they inhibit the function of proteases. Thus protease inhibitors are anti-metabolic protein that act in gut of insects and pests by interfer the process of digestion and provide one of the most important defence strategies existing in plants against insects and pests. Transgenic plants expressing protease inhibitor have been created that provide increased resistance to important pest species. This review describes classes of protease inhibitors, their role and mechanism of action in plant defence against insects and pests. Various transgenic plants expressing protease inhibitors and ability of adapted species against protease inhibitors is also briefly reviewed.
