Effect of Different Amount of Precursor on Graphene Synthesis from Waste Cooking Palm Oil

2019
The effect of different amount waste cooking palm oil as a carbon source are employed for the growth of graphene. The carbon sources were comprised of $5\ \boldsymbol{\mu}\mathbf{l},\ 10\ \boldsymbol{\mu} \mathbf{l}, 50 \boldsymbol{\mu} \mathbf{l}$ and $100\ \boldsymbol{\mu}\mathbf{l}$ . The synthesis of graphene by Double thermal chemical vapour deposition, (DTCVD) method using waste cooking palm oil (WCPO) as a green carbon source was investigated. The WCPO was placed in the first furnace (precursor furnace) and nickel was placed in the second furnace (deposition furnace). AFM and XRD were used to characterize the prepared samples. AFM analysis shows the topography structural changed by using different amounts of waste cooking palm oil. XRD results show the graphene layers increases from ∼12 to ∼14 when the carbon source increases from 5 to $100\ \boldsymbol{\mu}\mathbf{l}$ . The formation of graphene with high defect occurred as a result of using an ample amount of carbon source.
