Superconductivity and normal-state magnetism in La2-xSrxCuO4

Two-dimensional short-range spin correlation was studied in LSCO and La 2-x Sr x Cu 1-y Zn y O 4 by means of susceptibility measurement of the normal state. We found that the appearance of the susceptibility maximum coupled with itinerant holes or the disappearance of it due to Zn substitution was strongly related to the appearance or disappearance of the superconductivity, respectively.
