Microstructure and magnetostrictive properties of as cast Fe 83 Ga 17 Tb x alloys

2011
The Fe 100−x Ga x (x = 15–21) Fe 83 Ga 17 Tb x (x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) alloys were prepared by non-consumable arc-melting method. The microstructure and magnetostrictive properties of Fe 100−x Ga x (x = 15–21) /Fe 83 Ga 17 Tb x (x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) as cast alloys was investigated at room temperature. The results indicated that the magnetostrictive properties for Fe 83 Ga 17 Tb 0.2 compared with Fe 83 Ga 17 (at%) alloy were obviously improved. Magnetostrictive coefficient could reach to 500×10 −6 under an external magnetic field of 105.5kA·m −1 for the Fe 83 Ga 17 Tb 0.2 as cast alloy. The enhancement of magnetostrictive coefficient in Fe 83 Ga 17 Tb 02 in high field was due to the [100] textured. Results of XRD and SEM show that terbium was not exist in A2 phase (matrix) of Fe 83 Ga 17 Tb x alloys, but was enriched in grain boundary.
