High speed switching in metal particle recording media

1999
A study of high speed switching in advanced metal particle (MP) recording media has been undertaken. By applying pulsed and swept magnetic fields to switch the media, a remanence curve is produced which is analogous to the digital recording process. These measurements reveal that the remanent coercivity for a 1.8 ns pulse increases to around 1.3 times the value of the quasi-DC level, as well as an observed broadening of the switching field distribution. These experimental results are compared with the switching model suggested by el Hilo.
