Radio-Quiet Zones

The present paper reviews the regulatory tools for protecting radio astronomy, with emphasis on the mm-waveband and on radio astronomy in Chile; it describes existing radio-quiet zones around radio observatories and the future requirements to protect new instruments such as ALMA and SKA, which are intended to operate at sensitivity levels far greater than are currently achieved.
