Could AIT be a model for the Third World or does the West have too control

1979
The objectives of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) are to provide opportunities for individuals of diverse Asian nationalities to work together to discover and test technological solutions to common problems affecting the quality of life in Asia. Irregardless of the few but highly trained technocrats who have graduated from the school plus the practical importance of research projects Sardar believes the total impact of AIT has been negligible primarily because its existance is not widely known in Asia and more importantly it is regarded as an alien institution financed by the West. Sarder suggests as a future area of contribution the 4 specialized science information centers plus the Regional Documentation Center organized in 1977.
