Pharmacokinetics of quinidine in dogs with congestive cardiac failure

Summary The pharmacokinetics of quinidine have been studied in control dogs and in dogs with congestive cardiac failure induced by an aorto-caval fistula. Plasma quinidine was measured fluorometrically either following a non-specific protein precipitation procedure or following a specific extraction procedure. The method of assay used to estimate plasma quinidine did not significantly influence the values obtained for derived pharmacokinetic parameters. Neither the half-life of quinidine nor its volume of distribution was significantly altered in the presence of congestive cardiac failure.
