Relevanz von Geschlecht in Interaktionen in der Grundschule

2021
Over the last 30 years, ethnographic research in German-speaking countries has found that gender as a social category plays an essential role in primary education, structuring everyday school life. Our analysis is based on ethnographic field notes taken in two different classrooms – a joint first-and-second-grade classroom, and a fourth grade classroom – with a focus on processes of doing and undoing gender (and doing and undoing other social categories). In this article, we contrast our study "Jungen und Bildung" ("boys and education") with existing studies, looking at whether constructions of gender, and especially constructions of masculinity, have transformed or persisted over the last three decades.
