High-performance Meta-devices Based on Multilayer Meta-atoms for W-band Beam Redirecting

2019
In recent years, transmissive metasurfaces have provided an effective platform for beam deflection. But the multi-layer meta-atoms used previously are too thick. In this paper, we have found that certain types of meta-atoms can cover a range of phase, therefore suitable for the application of electromagnetic wavefront regulation. First, we designed different meta-atoms to achieve 360° phase coverage, and then arranged these meta-atoms based on the linear gradient phase. Finally, we realize an efficient and ultra-thin beam deflection metasurface in the w-band. Our results shed light on the physical mechanism of the interaction between the thickness and performance of the transmissive metasurface, which can guide the implementation of miniaturized transmissive devices in different frequency domains.
